Health Services Research and Development Funding Awards to VA Investigators

The Health Services Research and Development Service of the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Research and Development recently funded the following investigator initiated awards. The Research Office wishes to recognize these individuals.

Principle Investigator Grant Title Goals of Study
Mary S. Vaughan Sarrazin, Ph.D. Estimating the Magnitude of Unmeasured Risk in VA Patients The primary goal of this study is to identify whether VA utilization is an independent risk factor for poor outcomes. It will compare outcomes of VA patients and non- VA patients for 10 high volume medical an surgical diagnoses, adjusting for severity of illness. The study will then identify characteristics of VA patients that are associated with poor outcomes and estimate the prognostic impact of these characteristics.
Bonnie J. Wakefield, Ph.D. Effectiveness of Home Care Coordination in Managing Medically Complex Patients This study will evaluate the efficacy of home telehealth in improving outcomes in veterans with co-morbid diabetes and hypertension. It will compare outcomes of patients who receive home telehealth care to outcomes of patients who receive usual care.
