VA Medical Center "Center of Excellence"

Iowa City, Iowa -- The VA Iowa City Health Care System announces that it has been awarded a "Center of Excellence" grant for Health Services Research. This grant is funded at a level of $700,000 per year for the next five years.
The title of the center is "Center for Research in the Implementation of Innovative Strategies in Practice ( CRIISP). The center will be part of an integrated program to,
Dr. Gary Rosenthal, M.D., is the Director of this center of excellence and his Associate Director is Fred Wolinski, Ph.D.
" VA research is a national asset that benefits veteran patients and the entire nation by moving medical science forward," said John Cowdery, M.D., the medical center's Acting Chief of Staff. " VA investigators played key roles in developing devices and techniques that revolutionized health care - such as the cardiac pacemaker, the CAT scan, and liver and kidney transplants. Today, VA is a leader in many areas of research, including AIDS, mental health, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, infectious diseases, and spinal cord injury."
VA conducts medical, rehabilitation, clinical, and health services research - as well as large, multi-center clinical trials - at more than 100 medical centers across the country, including the VA Iowa City Health Care System.
